My family room is smiling at me today. Why? Because my glorious door coffee table is done and it's perfect for this room.
A couple of month's ago, my dear, talented, gorgeous friend, Layla from The Lettered Cottage, did a design consultation on my family room. This coffee table creation was her recommendation because I have a large room and it fills the space so much better than a small table or ottoman. Not to mention, it's just plain-old cool.
As soon as Layla recommended making a coffee table from an old door, I started scouring salvage yards and junk stores until I found this one perfect door. I love the large, single panel. It was perfect for a table.
There's still a bunch of work to be done in this room (board and batten, anyone?), but this table was a huge step in the right direction. It's the perfect spot to set my morning coffee or play games with the kids. The Hubster can rest his feet there and I could probably throw a mattress on top of it for sleepovers.
I'm still fooling around with the display that I want to put on it. I'm not exactly thrilled with this one but it's working for the moment. I want something a little more natural, so I'll be outside hunting for rocks today. And I fear that my succulent apothecary terrarium will become victim to a flying ball at some point. Boys.
If you want to know more about this glorious new/old table, click here I'll tell you a little about how it was made including the colors I used for the top and the legs. In the meantime, here's some more inspiration about projects to do with old doors.

Looks fantastic!
And I can't wait to see some board and batten soon - love it!
Wonderful coffee table! Excellent work. Jackie
The table look fantastic. I agree with you about boys, balls thrown and apothocary jars. I love them but I'm afraid.
Great job on the table! It looks great! Can't wait to see the transformation as it progresses.
It looks very "professional" and lovely!! Anxious to see your final display, since that's a hard part for me. Need inspiration!
Fabulous idea - well done!
I absolutely LOVE it. One question: What did you do about the place where the hardware was? Do you have to patch it? It looks perfect!

I love it! It is perfect! I like that it has the raised sides so that things like coffee cups won't slide off easily.
Kimba, it's great! It looks so pro! Like you bought it from some fancy design catalog.
love the table... I love all things involving old doors.. we are going to make a large dining room table from old doors and I just hung one over our coach... great idea....
Great job, Kimba! Be proud!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Kimba,
That coffee table looks beautiful. You did a great job with it. I am curious to know how you did it. Looks like maybe you used an old door an already good bottom piece. I will check back tomorrow to see what you share.
Off to look at your inspiration links.

I just might do that. Cool. I just discovered your DIY Day and already have my DIY Day projects for the next three weeks. I am so excited. Wow, all these DIY projects are to my crafty side like a fresh out of the oven pumpkin pie is to my belly. Nothing like good inspiration to get the creative juices flowing!
That is awesome! I love the legs on it. Great job
I love it! You can't even tell it's a door. The colors are great too!
Ahh what awesome idea! I recently found Layla’s page through Southern Hospitality and can’t wait to read through her post. I’ve seen a few projects that have come together with things found at salvage yards. I’ve never been to one but looks like I need to hit one up. What does one do when you go to a salvage yard? Do you need to check in with someone or do you just hunt around and see what you can find. Are you able to haggle prices with them?
The “coffee door” looks wonderful and I love the color you selected for the legs!

Yup yup, I love it too! And I'll refrain from questions because I just KNOW your tutorial will cover it all. :)
I'm on the lookout for a long deep bench for a coffee table. Finds are so much more interesting than buys!

Great job! It looks great and I love it!
That made a great coffee table.
This looks fantastic! Looking forward to reading about how you made it.
Gorgeous! Love every inch of it. Mimi
Hey lady! LOVE the door coffee table. My g-ma had a ship's door for a coffee table growing up. IT was fantastic. I may just search around for something similar!
That'a an awesome table. Were you lucky and getto have someone else build and finish it for you? Double score. And triple score that your boys actually LEAVE the display on the table ALONE--mine DON'T and our decor is ghetto simplicity right now. ;)
Gorgeous!!! Love how it turned out!
that ROCKS! What a cool table, love it!!!!
I love it! I truly do! FANTASTIC :)
Love it ... what a great idea.
