It's DIY Day!

DIY Day @ ASPTL

Thursday has rapidly become my favorite day of the week because I love seeing all of your projects!

This week we have a special treat! A prize!!!! Darlene from Flax and Spindle has generously offered one of her beautiful Vintage Post Card Pillows.

The really fun part is that Darlene is going to pick her favorite DIY post as the winner. (She's a brave gal! I wouldn't touch that with 10-foot can of spray paint.)

I've been oogling over the pillows in Darlene's etsy shop for ages (I really love the French Postage Bolster Pillow), but I guess I can't try to win a contest on my own blog, huh?

Well, let's get to the linking! If you want to use the pretty DIY Day button, you can grab it over in my far-right column. Here's the rulios...

  1. Add a permalink to your specific post, not the main page of your blog. If you don't know what I mean by "permalink" and why it matters, go look in my comments section and I'll explain.
  2. Include a short description of your DIY project in parenthesis after the name of your blog. For example, The Padded Room (crocheted light switch cozies).
  3. Link to this party from your post so everyone can get in on the fun.
  4. Visit, visit, visit and comment, comment, comment!
  5. Double-check to make sure your link works and goes to the right page so it doesn’t get deleted! If you come back and see your link is gone, re-read these rules and try again. No worries!

Decorating With What I Have

And what I have are oyster shells. Lots and lots of oyster shells.

What started off as a couple of shells in my pocket while walking the beach, ended up as 2 sons, 1 nephew and 1 cousin dragging heavy buckets of shells down the beach for me. Gotta love having boys.

As I was picking up each one, I was musing about the post I was going write comparing myself to the lowly oyster shell.

How those exterior shells are formed layer by layer over time. Each layer giving more protection to the inside.

How their real beauty is only revealed as some of those layers are chipped away.

How over time, the rough and broken edges are softened and smoothed by the waves and the sand.

But honestly, I'm not a writer. I don't usually have the right words to express my thoughts. Most of the time, I'm just a clown.

So I stuck a bunch of those shells in a glass hurricane. Pretty, no? That's my kind of decorating. Free.

Now, put on your thinking caps. Who has some good ideas for what I can do with 73 lbs of oyster shells?

Don't forget! Tomorrow is DIY Day! Get those project posts ready! Thursday's have quickly become my favorite day of the week because I LOVE seeing all of your projects.

And guess what!!!! This time there's going to be a prize for DIY Day!!! MckLinky will make his appearance at 10:00pm (eastern time) tonight. I think that's fair to east and west coasters, right?

Speaking of giveaways...My dear friend, Sandy from 4 Reluctant Entertainers is hosting a great giveaway from The Hip Hostess. Check it out!

Furniture Rehab ~ The Beach Edition Part 2

I'm not quite done sharing pictures from my vacation shopping trip that ended at Beach House Chic. If you missed yesterday's post, click here to see more.

Stop. The. World. She took two sets of bi-fold doors, attached a wooden shelf with wood supports and created a bar height counter. I don't need a bar in my house, but if I didn't have a fireplace, I would totally do this to create a mantle-like focal point in my family room. You could put more shelving or even a buffet underneath.

And how about this greenhouse made from old window panes?

I would love some of these hand tool candle holder thingies for my back porch.

Seriously! Look how cute they are!

And really. How beautiful is this river rock table runner? Just gorgeous!

This last picture came from "The Coop" where most of the rehab work for Beach House Chic was done. I told you yesterday that Diane is a master thrifter. She races her way through garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores every weekend looking for pieces that can be made beautiful with a few repairs and a coat of paint.

I nearly fell over laughing when I saw this glorious pile of chairs waiting to be rehabbed. This stack had to be 15-20 feet tall. Diane called it Chair Jenga and swore that she knew exactly what was in there and how to find it. Hilarious, no?
